Dear Parents and students of the Chinese AP class,

(1) There is a Chinese Language Evaluation test called TOP (Test of Proficiency). It's a Chinese assessment system developed by Chinese Language Testing Center under the direction of the Ministry of Education of ROC. The test fees usually cost about $40 for individual and $30 for group registration.

(2) This time, they specially offered us for FREE (a $40 value). Therefore, please fill out the registration form attached here. In the form, there is no need to attach any ID or Passport copy. Please email me back or you may give me a hard copy on 3/13 (tomorrow).

(3) The test will take place on one of our regular Saturday Chinese school hours. Stay tune for exact date and time.

Dear Parents and students of Chinese AP test preparation Class:

(1) Please see the attached files for this week's teaching schedule.

(2) Our scheduled Mid-Term test is moved to next week (3/20) due to a schedule conflict with the 3/13 Chinese pre-SAT practice test.

(3) On 3/13, PVHS will have SAT test. Please stay quite even during the recess times. Thanks!

(4) The Chinese pre-SAT practice test will be held from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at P8 (M8 class) on 3/13.

(5) Please also review the attached March parent Bulletin file. Thanks!

(6) Please don't forget to turn in the TOP test registration form (the registration form is attached with previous email). It's a rare opportunity and it's free.

A PVHS staff member, last Saturday, saw several SBCS parents (or
guardians) smoking cigarettes on campus. I am sure that they are not
aware of the "no smoking" policy in our school district. Please email
all parents to let them know that smoking is prohibited. Some of the
adults seemed to be elderly, maybe grandparents.Thanks, Nancy. Butch

(2) On May 1st, there will be a SAT test held at PVHS. Therefore, the parking spaces will be very limited.

(3) On May 1ST and May 8th, please do not re-arrange the settings for the tables and chairs . Those tables and chairs are setup for AP testing.

(4) On May 1st, our Chinese Knotting classes will be taught outside of the FDR room.

(5) The Spring Splendor DVD will be ready and on sale soon. Stay tune for a message from our principal Shen.

十五年來,從牽著小女的手去上幼稚班,從bpmf開始,從一筆一劃把著她的小手寫漢字開始,從第一次對媽媽說,我不要上中文課,從第一次告訴媽媽,我不要寫中文功課, 從第一次聽到她對我說,課本好難,好無聊.當有一天,她對我說,我真的不要再去上中文學校時…

這些點點滴滴,和我常常聽到家長們對我傾吐的是一樣的. 我相信堅持,毅力,溝通,和恆心是我常放在嘴邊的互勉之詞吧.

然而在這十五年間,我加入了海外中文教育的行列, 除了不斷的充實自己教學經驗與知識,並開始規劃下一個十五年中文教育,以期能更有效的配合世界潮流和大環境的需求.

如今二十一歲的她在五月份以名列前茅的成績拿到法學博士.那她的漢語水平, 中文程度呢? 她回來中文學校教過幼稚班,每次去中國大陸,她會用自己的語言去討價還價.閒來拿本中文書看看, 或是在電視機前和媽媽一起看著中文連續劇.

原來從小女的身上我體會到堅持與恆心的真諦.在海外學習漢語,
難不難?當然難.所以提高教師的素質, 加強彼此間的溝通, 吸收更多外面的資訊等等成了重要努力的方針.

讓我們手牽手,心連心,共同創造孩子們美好的未來.

The UCLA Chinese Student Association is a social club on campus dedicated to providing students with cultural activities, chances to explore LA, and make new friends. We make opportunities for students who feel disconnected from their own culture after leaving home or want to learn more and discover the wonders of Chinese culture. We hold events every single week, and our biggest event is Heritage Night. For the past 4 years, we have brought many well known stories from ancient China to UCLA. This year, the story, Peach Blossom Fan (桃花扇) is from the tumultuous times of the Ming Dynasty. Aside from the play, we also have choir, traditional instruments, and opera. Hope to see you there.
